Spring has arrived. You may be no stranger to a tennis racquet or an expert on the golf course, but have you ventured over to the pickleball courts? The sport has simple rules and is easy for beginners to learn. For seasoned players, the courts can quickly become home to fun, fast paced and competitive games. Come join your fellow members and be part of the growth of pickleball at Duck Woods.

With regular scheduled open play daily, weekly lesson opportunities and unlimited court availability, there are many opportunities for members to discover this fun sport. The nature of pickleball games are short so that players normally don’t have to wait too long to get back onto a court. The social nature of pickleball provides the opportunity to play with many different members and experience the different aspects of the game, from the dinkers to the bangers to the lobbers. Each game is different and fun as well as offering a good workout. The new pickleball courts can’t come too soon.

The pickleball growth on the Outer Banks is also reflected in the many venues currently available for play. Pine Island is getting new outdoor courts, Westside has 4 courts with scheduled open play, the Dare Recreation Center continues to provide indoor weekly play, Dowdy Park offers two courts and Manteo offers indoor play.

With the arrival of warmer weather, the PBA will be sponsoring some social activities. Look for announcements for our next gathering and if you are not a member consider joining this fun group. Kevin has beginner and intermediate lessons available, and many players would gladly show you the basics of the game. It’s easy to learn, and fun to play.
