The November 11th Pre-holiday Event was a huge success! Many thanks to everyone for your generosity and participation! I cannot thank the committee members enough that worked so hard to make it a truly special day. We collected $400 in cash/checks, $450 in gift certificates and 804 pounds of food for The Beach Food pantry!! All of the cook- books were sold, netting over $2,000 each for The Beach Food Pantry and Food For Thought. As of this writing, Christmas Families reports nearly every item requested by 20 different children has been assigned along with $2,135 in additional funds collected. The beautiful centerpieces, a fundraiser for our operating budget, were in high demand throughout the day with many of them being sold. Thank you!!

Next up! We have an amazing December program featuring Tshombe Selby. A former Manteo resident, Tshombe has performed as an operatic tenor for the Metropolitan Opera in New York. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to start off the season listening to his beautiful rendition of holiday music.

I wish you all a wonderful and safe Christmas and holiday season.
President, Carol Riggin

What a treat for our November program as Carl Curnutte, host extraordinaire and Executive Director of the Elizabethan Gardens, conducted a virtual tour of his beautifully decorated Manteo home! With 17 themed Christmas trees, 150 lit candles, dozens of floral creations and innumerable holiday ornaments and works of art, Carl and his band of talented friends amazed us and offered tips on flower design, baking, wine and gift giving as we visited each room in his house. Check out the video on our Facebook page as well as the websites for the vendors represented on the tour. You will definitely get inspired for the holidays!

The festive treats continue at our December meeting with our exclusive holiday concert performed by Dare County’s gift to the world of opera, Tshombe Selby. This mega talented tenor began singing in his Manteo church choir at age 5 and has since per- formed all over the United States and in Africa. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2015 and sang last year in Porgie and Bess with the New York Metropolitan Opera Company. Since COVID shut down the Met, Mr. Selby is pursuing a Master’s degree in opera in New York. We are indeed fortunate to experience the Tshombe Selby’s gift of holiday music to us from his New York home. Don’t miss it!
