Once again, the generosity of our WADWCC members was on display at our November 5th Pre-Holiday Event held at the clubhouse.
- Members donated 980 pounds of food and holiday decorations for the Beach Food Pantry clients.
- Food gift cards, checks, and cash totaling $2865 were donated to the Beach Food Pantry.
- Checks and cash for the Food for Thought program that supplies weekend meals for school children and their families came to over $1210.
- Nearly all raffle tickets benefiting our general fund were sold.
- Many members also signed up to buy gifts for families in need and the entire Christmas Families list was completed in one day! Those gifts will be collected on Friday, December 3rd from 8:00-10:00am in the Club dining room. Please use the FRONT DOOR OF THE CLUB so that we do not disturb another function that will be taking place in the banquet room.
I want to thank all our members who helped make this season of giving so truly successful for WADWCC. Your donations of time, energy, and treasure make the Outer Banks a better place for those who live and work here year-round. In return, it is my hope that you have time this season to enjoy your family and friends with great food, happy conversations, and most of all, HUGS. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Program – JoAnn Small & Ginger Webster
On December 1st, be ready to be entertained! Bill Rea is a multi-talented actor, songwriter, singer, musician, and teacher, who along with his family will have us “jingling” at this virtual show! Our November meeting focused on the NC Coastline as a living shoreline and sanctuary of oyster farming. Erin Fleckenstein, manager of the NC Coastal Federation office in Wanchese, presented a very informative program highlighting the growing and harvesting of oysters and clams in our beautiful waters. These are small businesses, family owned. Because of the way oysters are farmed, you can eat these delicious oysters YEAR-ROUND. The “North Carolina Oyster Trail is a route along our coast with over 50 oyster farms and restaurants featured. There is even a working oyster farm in the waters at the NC Coastal Federation office in Harbor Road in Wanchese. Your recycled oyster shells are used to build reefs along our NC coast. Look for WADWCC field trip information in the future. For more information, visit nccoast.org.
Christmas Families – Catherine McGrogan
At the November 5th Pre-Holiday Event, Christmas Families collected more than $2000 for families in Dare and Currituck Counties. We also filled all of our present needs for 20 Dare County children. Our scheduled day for present drop offs is Friday, December 3rd from 8:00 to 10:00am at the club dining room. PLEASE USE THE FRONT ENTRANCE to drop off your gifts!
Literary Duck Book and Movie Club – Ellen Kruse
Our three fall meetings have been well attended. In November, we discussed WEST WITH GIRAFFES, by Lynda Rutledge, led by Linda Etheridge. On Monday, December 13, we will meet to view “News of the World” a 2020 film starring Tom Hanks, based on a very successful novel. Meeting time will be confirmed by email. In January, we have our first non-fiction book of the season, SUSAN, LINDA, NINA & COKIE by Lisa Napoli. We will be led by LoisMary Hoehne. If you are interested in joining our group, contact Ellen Kruse firstname.lastname@example.org.
Food Pantry – Betty Bradley
The WADWCC Pre-Holiday Event was a huge success. It was not only a success for the Beach Food Pantry, but for all the charities as well. We collected 980 lbs. of food and Christmas decorations. The Food Lion gift cards for turkey and ham totaled $905.00. We also collected another $2,010.00 in checks and cash! Thank you all for your generosity to help needy families this time of year. Kudos to all of our volunteers who were dressed in holiday attire with their ugly Christmas sweaters, reindeer antlers, and Santa hats. A special thank you goes to Elisabeth Silverthorn, director of the Beach Food Pantry, for the use of the pantry van, her help, and staying the 2 hours until it was loaded.
Birthday Luncheons — Dorothy Green & Kathy Sanborn
Thirteen women celebrated their October and November birthdays in style! Joey’s Italian Delights were enjoyed by everyone. The December birthday gathering will be held at NC Coast on December 7, 2021 at 12Noon, hosted by Robyn Deger. Those invited will be sent an email with all the details.
